People’s artists – who are they? The names of some are known all over the world, others are known only in our country or in the circle of people of art, some, alas, are completely forgotten. Once, the only reward was applause, the recognition of the audience, the love of the people and memory. The first People’s Artist in Russia to receive the honorary title People’s Artist of the Republic in 1918 was Fedor Chaliapin. In September 1936, on September 6, the title People’s Artist of the USSR was established for “those who particularly distinguished themselves in the development of Soviet theater, music, and cinema.” Surprisingly, it was the actors and musicians who were the first to receive the highest honorary title in our country! Folk teachers, folk artists and folk architects appeared later.
First People’s Artists of the USSR
The founders and leading actors of the Moscow Art Theater opened a list of 1006 People’s Artists of the USSR – Konstantin Stanislavsky and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko, Ivan Moskvin, Vasily Kachalov, opera singer of the Bolshoi Theater Antonina Nezhdanova.
In the 30s and 50s, the title of People’s Artist was assigned mainly to the figures of theater, opera and ballet. Although the most important of the arts for the people was cinema, and later television and pop, film and television actors and pop artists did not so often receive this honorary title, even in later Soviet years. By the way, the first of the pop artists who became popular was Leonid Utesov, and the first dancers were Olga Lepeshinskaya and Galina Ulanova. What actors, what names:
Directors, theater and cinema actors, choreographers, choreographers and ballet, circus and stage artists are folk, beloved, best …
Only loved by the people
And how many more have received popular recognition, but not honored as such by the state?
Sergei Eisenstein – the famous Soviet film director, well-known outside the Soviet Union, did not become the owner of the title of People. Not People’s Artist and Great Russian Composer of the 20th Century Sergei Prokofiev. Andrei Mironov, Leonid Bykov, Leonid Kuravlev, Valentina Tolkunova are not people’s artists of the USSR. Not folk?
Vladimir Vysotsky and Yuri Vizbor did not even have a chance to get this title …
It was not without bureaucracy – the passage of all documents to receive the honorary title of People’s Artist of the USSR without an indication from above was so long that
Many nominees simply did not live to see it end.
Mark Bernes – died a few days before the signing of the Decree.
Jan Frenkel received the title two weeks before his death.
Rina Zelena died a few hours after signing the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on awarding her the title of People’s Artist, the document was not given a go … How many of them are only People’s artists?
… and the last
1991 – the last year of awarding the honorary title People’s Artist of the USSR. Actors, directors, singers, musicians, composers, artists – a total of 32.
Who should be considered the last people’s artist of the USSR? The one who was last awarded this honorary title, or the one who last goes into eternity, forever remaining in the memory of the living? After all, they leave – great and folk artists. Their creativity, music, roles in the cinema and on the stage remain, their talent remains.
