The legendary actors of world cinema
Holidays are getting closer, corporate events are already starting in many companies, and the internal clock has launched a countdown. We’ll be compassionate yet?
Today is the birthday of the famous Indian theater and film actor Raj Kapoor. Surely grateful spectators will also present him some prize this year: proclaimed by the Indian Charlie Chaplin, he collected all the prizes he could during his lifetime, but he is still awarded posthumously.
Let’s remember today the legendary actors of the twentieth century, who are remembered and honored to this day.
Raj Kapoor (India)
It is logical to start with a birthday. Kapoor did not become a star because there was no one else. He really knew how to subtly convey emotions without sometimes uttering a word: the movement of an eyebrow, an expressive look, a “talking” smile. And best of all, the Kapoor actor was able to reveal the Kapoor director – the film “Tramp” in the year of its release was a hit in world cinema.
We are somehow used to believe that Indian cinema in a brief retelling sounds like this:
– Do you have a birthmark? I have the same birthmark!
– So they found each other!
And now the dancing!
In fact, of course, Indian cinema is deeper, it just uses other forms. Albeit a musical cinema, it nonetheless touches upon such serious issues as social injustice, equality, children’s crime, and so on. So the entertainment shell does not always replace the content.
Jean Marais (France)
The actor embodied on the screen all the women’s dreams of courageous, romantic, strong and dexterous heroes: he starred mainly in adventure films, where he performed all the tricks himself (Fantomas do not count!).
Women went crazy over him, no less than Alain Delon. And for more than 25 years he loved the writer and director Jean Cocteau. Se la vie!
Lawrence Olivier (UK)
His repertoire range extended from Shakespeare and the ancient Greeks to modern drama. He and his second wife – the beautiful Vivien Leigh – are today considered one of the most beautiful star couples. When the Second World War began, he preferred not inspiring charitable performances, but signed up as a volunteer in the Air Force. He played such roles that many actors can only dream of, and few artists can boast of such, or at least even a similar, list of awards and nominations for their work. A spectacular man lived a spectacular life – and not only on the movie screen.
Humphrey Bogart (USA)
A cult actor of the last century – many of those who did not mention a single film with his participation heard his name. Well, except that “Casablanca” will be remembered – a classic of not only American, but also world cinema. Having fallen in love with 19-year-old Lauren Bacall, Bogart (who at that time turned 45) was happy to let his girlfriend replay himself in joint scenes – he, already a recognized legend, thus helped the young starlet grow into a real star. In the ranking of the 100 most famous quotes from American films, five belong to the heroes of Bogart – and this is more than any other actor.
Here it is impossible to choose! Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, Valentin Gaft, Vladimir Etush, Frunzik Mkrtchyan, Yuri Nikulin, Zinovy Gerdt, Evgeny Evstigneev, Evgeny Leonov, Leonid Bronevoy, Oleg Yankovsky, Rolan Bykov, Andrey Mironov, Anatoly Papanov, Leonid Filatov, Innokenty Razoktunov … maybe choose one? For us, they and many of their colleagues are actors whose work we will not forget, and we will review films with them again and again.
