Rich and famous: who did they earn as a youth?
Life is unfair! – Young people often complain. Students with no work experience are rarely offered truly interesting vacancies. We have to earn extra money on a boring, low-skilled job, which is embarrassing to tell friends about. In fact, there is nothing to be ashamed of. Even in the work books of world-famous personalities, which today are at the pinnacle of success, there are “dark spots”. About which, incidentally, they are not at all embarrassed to talk about. Do not believe? Let’s check.
Actors and directors
Most American celebrity stories are the way to the top from the bottom. Singer and actor Elvis Presley, for example, was born into a poor family who lived in shelters in the most difficult period. He himself worked as a truck driver and sometimes went to auditions in local groups, where the guy was informed that he did not have musical abilities. After a couple of years, these people must have been very surprised.
Few famous actors manage to immediately get roles in films, money, fame and recognition. Usually, future stars have been encroaching on the thresholds of studios for years and terrorizing their agents to find work for them. It is somehow necessary to live at this time, so the actors do not disdain any work – if only she would leave time to participate in the castings.
Jim Carrey worked from the age of 15, and at the first job he and his sisters and brother washed the floors. At the same age, he first spoke to the public as a comedian. It was a complete failure, the audience booed him. The teenager received such a psychological trauma that for another two years he did not dare to speak to the public.
What did the future Western actor Clint Eastwood not work for! He was a pool cleaner, tanker and fireman. The ability to readjust from one profession to another helped him in his cinematic career. After all, he managed to turn from a laconic hero of action movies and spaghetti westerns into a cult director and even get a couple of Oscars in this role.
Many professions had to change and Brad Pitt. Before starting to act, he worked as a driver, a carrier of furniture and a barker. And he invited passers-by to the Mexican restaurant Pitt in the costume of a giant chicken. Of course, this is a work close to acting. But, I suspect, he did not dream about this. Megan Fox once had to walk in a banana suit and sell fruit shakes. Later, the actress said that she could choose an apple costume, but she preferred a banana – it is “slimmer”. Hugh Jackman had to dress up as a koala – he moonlighted as a mascot of the Wildlife Fund. In addition, one of the main charm of Hollywood worked as a clown on children’s mornings and birthdays.
Jennifer Aniston had to work as a courier and telephone salesman. And also – a waitress. Perhaps this helped her very reliably portray a sincere dislike for such work in the series “Friends”.
But Quentin Tarantino’s career has always been connected with the cinema … in some way. From the age of 15 he earned money as a ticketer in a porno cinema, and then – at a video rental point. His British colleague Guy Ritchie also always worked for the video industry – first as a courier in one of the London studios, then as a director of clips and commercials. By the way, Guy Ritchie opened for the movie Jason Statham. Statham himself did not disdain any work, including he had to be a street vendor. Instead of casting, an unprofessional actor had to convince the director to buy some unnecessary thing. Statham did an excellent job, and got a role in the film “Cards, Money, Two Trunks.”
There are many such examples. Johnny Depp sold pens over the phone, Bruce Willis worked at the factory, Nicolas Cage traded popcorn, and Uma Thurman washed dishes. It seems that without such an experience, Hollywood actors do not take at all.
Famous businessmen are people who have been working since childhood. Moreover, many of them were not afraid of any work. Financial tycoon Donald Trump, for example, began by collecting soda bottles and returning them to a glass container collection point. Thomas Lipton, the founder of the famous tea company, at the age of 14 got a young ship.
Michael Dell, the founder of the company of the same name, in his youth washed dishes in a Chinese restaurant and worked part-time at the post office – he urged residents to subscribe to one newspaper. From each new subscriber, the boy received interest. Even in this simple job, he managed to turn around. The guy realized that it was easier to convince those residents who had recently arrived in their area. He paid friends to find new settlers, and persuaded them to subscribe.
Warren Buffett in his childhood sold chewing gum and soda, Michael Bloomberg worked at night in parking lots. Our billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov assures that he earned his first money as a student. The work was hard, but profitable – at night, he and his classmates unloaded wagons.
Feel free to talk about their first work and politics, including even the heads of state. For example, the first entry in Dmitry Medvedev’s work book testifies.
