People’s artists – who are they? The names of some are known all over the world, others are known only in our country or in the circle of people of art, some, alas, are completely forgotten. Once, the only reward was applause, the recognition of the audience, the love of the people and memory. The first People’s Artist in Russia to receive the honorary title People’s Artist of the Republic in 1918 was Fedor Chaliapin. In September 1936, on September 6, the title People’s Artist of the USSR was established for “those who particularly distinguished themselves in the development of Soviet theater, music, and cinema.” Surprisingly, it was the actors and musicians who were the first to receive the highest honorary title in our country! Folk teachers, folk artists and folk architects appeared later.

The founders and leading actors of the Moscow Art Theater opened a list of 1006 People’s Artists of the USSR – Konstantin Stanislavsky and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko, Ivan Moskvin, Vasily Kachalov, opera singer of the Bolshoi Theater Antonina Nezhdanova. Continue reading
